The level of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in Morocco continues to be low for 5 successive weeks and the post-Omicron Wave period continues, in parallel, for the 3rd week, said the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations, Mouad Mrabet.
"While global covid-19 surveillance data suggest a resumption of intensified viral circulation in several Western European countries, the level of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in Morocco has continued to be low for 5 successive weeks (...) the post Omicron Wave period continues for the 3rd week," Mrabet wrote in a commentary on the epidemiological situation as of March 20, posted on LinkedIn.
The last two weeks have been characterized by the lowest values of some indicators since the beginning of community transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in Morocco, he added, reporting a stagnant weekly incidence of 1.1-1.2 cases/ 100,000 Hts and a weekly positivity rate stagnating at less than 1% for the second week despite the decrease in testing.
As for the weekly incidence of severe Covidosis, it is between 1 to 2 cases / 1 million inhabitants, noted Mrabet, stressing that the number of weekly deaths is among the lowest during the phase III of the epidemic in Morocco.
The current epidemiological situation is the best, he assured, stressing that the risk of a resurgence of cases in the coming weeks is not zero given the situation in European countries.
Vaccination is highly recommended in this period to prepare our immune system for a possible resurgence during which the risk of contamination increases, said Mrabet, adding that to reduce the risk of severe Covidosis, "our immunity must be previously boosted".
