A "targeted operation" in Yemen has killed "more than 156" Houthi rebels in the past 24 hours south of the strategic city of Marib, the Saudi-led military coalition announced on Monday.
"The targeted operation in al-Abdiya destroyed eight military vehicles and killed more than 156 terrorist elements," the coalition said, noting that 33 operations targeting the rebels were carried out in the past 24 hours.
More than 20 raids have been carried out by the pro-government Saudi-led military coalition since 2015, according the official figures. The Iran-backed Houthi rebels, however, already control a large part of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa taken in 2014. Fighting around the province of Marib has intensified recently, leaving dozens dead. Since February, Houthis have been attempting to take control of this oil-rich province.
