The United Arab Emirates has strengthened its air defense posture during recent regional tensions with Iran, receiving advanced military support from Israel, in what analysts describe as a significant evolution in bilateral security cooperation.
According to a report by Financial Times, Israel deployed a version of its laser-based Iron Beam system to the UAE to help counter missile and drone threats during the escalation.
The system, designed to intercept short-range projectiles using directed energy, represents one of Israel’s most advanced air defense technologies and has only recently entered operational service.
In addition to Iron Beam, Israel reportedly provided the UAE with an advanced detection platform known as Spectro, capable of identifying incoming drones at distances of up to 20 kilometers.
The deployment also included other unspecified defense systems, as well as personnel on the ground to support operations, according to sources cited in the report, suggesting a deeper level of operational coordination than previously disclosed.
Israeli assistance extended beyond hardware, with real-time intelligence reportedly shared with Emirati authorities to track missile launches originating from Iran and heading toward the Gulf.
The support comes amid heightened tensions following a wave of Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting the UAE during the recent conflict, prompting Abu Dhabi to seek enhanced defensive capabilities.
According to UAE defense data, hundreds of missiles and thousands of drones were launched during the escalation, making the country one of the most exposed targets in the region during that period.
While a large number of incoming threats were intercepted, some strikes reached both military and civilian sites, underscoring the urgency of strengthening air defense systems.
The cooperation reflects the deepening strategic relationship between the UAE and Israel since the signing of the Abraham Accords, which established formal diplomatic, economic, and security ties between the two countries.
Officials from both sides have indicated that coordination intensified during the conflict, including joint efforts to counter threats emanating from southern Iran.
The reported deployment marks one of the first publicly known instances of Israel providing direct operational military support to the UAE beyond training and joint exercises.
Notably, some of the systems deployed were described as prototypes or not yet fully integrated into Israel’s own defense architecture, reflecting the urgency and evolving nature of the conflict environment.
The Iron Beam system, first unveiled in 2014 and operationalized in late 2025, is designed to complement existing systems such as Iron Dome by targeting smaller aerial threats while preserving missile-based interceptors for more complex attacks.
As regional security dynamics continue to shift, the episode highlights the UAE’s growing reliance on advanced, multi-layered defense partnerships and underscores the expanding scope of its security cooperation with Israel.
