Saudi Arabia on Monday strongly condemned what it described as "reprehensible" drone attacks launched against the Kingdom by Iran-backed militias operating in Iraq, reaffirming its commitment to defending its national security and sovereignty.
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks in the strongest terms, accusing Iran-affiliated armed groups in Iraq of carrying out the assaults against the Kingdom.
Riyadh stressed that it remains determined to protect its territory and deter those responsible for the attacks. The Kingdom also reiterated its sovereign right to respond to the sources of aggression in accordance with international law and its national security interests.
The ministry further called on the Iraqi government to take all necessary measures to prevent its territory from being used as a launching ground for hostile operations targeting neighboring countries. Saudi Arabia emphasized that Baghdad bears responsibility for ensuring that armed groups do not use Iraqi soil to threaten regional security and stability.
The statement underscores growing concerns over cross-border attacks by Iran-backed militias and highlights Saudi Arabia's call for stronger action by Iraq to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace.
