An officer in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been killed in Syria, according to Iranian media on Tuesday.
The semi-official Mehr news agency said that Brig. Gen. Abolfazl Alijani was killed while on duty on Monday evening in Syria.
The circumstances of his death were not yet clear.
The broadcaster described Alijani as a combat engineering cadre of the IRGC ground forces.
There was no Iranian confirmation yet of the officer's death.
Iran says its forces play an "advisory" role in Syria, and not on combat mission.
