Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Tuesday that the United States had imposed not only a trade blockade but also an air blockade on Iran, warning that Tehran would respond forcefully to any further pressure.
Earlier this month, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that, starting September 23, Iranian airlines would be barred from operating flights and denied ground services under US sanctions. Following the announcement, several countries suspended flights operated by Iranian airlines.
"The leaders of the White House should know that the brave Iranian nation will never back down despite the trade and air blockade. Iran's response to any oppression or trickery will make them regret it and will be harsh, precise and swift," Ghalibaf said.
The Iranian parliament speaker also warned that as long as Iran is unable to sell its oil, no other country in the region will be able to do so.
He added that continued threats to Iran's security would also create an atmosphere of insecurity for infrastructure facilities across the Middle East.
