Russia and Morocco continue to maintain robust bilateral trade worth between $1.5 billion and $2 billion, with significant potential for further expansion, Russian Ambassador to Morocco Igor Belyayev said on Monday.
In an interview with Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti, Belyayev said bilateral trade has remained stable despite global economic challenges.
"Today, bilateral trade is maintained at the level of $1.5–2 billion," the ambassador said.
Belyayev explained that Russian exports to Morocco include agricultural raw materials, industrial and chemical products, as well as pharmaceuticals.
He noted that Russia supplies urea (carbamide), a key fertilizer for Morocco's agricultural sector—along with insulin, anti-cancer medicines, vaccines, and pesticides.
The ambassador added that Russian companies are also working to diversify their exports by developing more products certified under halal standards.
On the other hand, Morocco exports high-quality fruits, vegetables, and seafood to Russia, products that continue to enjoy strong demand among Russian consumers.
According to Belyayev, the two countries possess considerable untapped potential to expand mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation.
While describing political dialogue between Moscow and Rabat as being at a high level, the Russian envoy argued that economic relations have yet to match the strength of bilateral political ties.
"Political dialogue between Russia and Morocco is at a high level. However, I believe the potential for trade and economic cooperation has not yet been fully utilized and still falls short of the level of our political relations," Belyayev said.
