Morocco Remains Spain’s Top Non-EU Fresh Produce Supplier as Imports Hit €710 Million

Morocco retained its position as Spain’s largest non-European Union supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables during the first four months of 2026, as Spanish imports from third countries continued to expand in both volume and value.

According to data from Spain’s Department of Customs and Special Taxes, processed by the Spanish Federation of Producers and Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Live Plants (FEPEX), Spain imported €710 million worth of fresh produce from Morocco between January and April, marking a 5.6% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

In volume terms, Morocco supplied 232,993 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables, making it Spain’s second-largest supplier overall, behind France, which exported 494,547 tonnes.

The figures come as Spain’s imports from non-EU countries continued to outpace those from EU member states. Fresh produce imports from third countries reached 895,791 tonnes, up 6.5% year-on-year, with a total value of €1.503 billion, an increase of 9%.

Overall, Spain imported 1.7 million tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables during the January-April period, valued at €2.095 billion, representing annual increases of 6% in volume and 4% in value.

According to FEPEX, non-EU suppliers accounted for 72% of the total value of Spain's fresh fruit and vegetable imports during the four-month period, compared with 28% for EU countries. In volume terms, third countries represented 52% of total imports, overtaking EU suppliers, which accounted for 48%.

After Morocco, Peru ranked as Spain's second-largest non-EU supplier by value, with exports worth €183 million, followed by Costa Rica (€113 million) and Brazil (€87 million), the latter recording a 17.5% annual increase.

FEPEX said the latest figures highlight the growing role of non-EU countries in supplying Spain's fresh produce market, with Morocco maintaining its leading position among third-country exporters.
