Morocco, Luxembourg Eye Deeper Economic Ties as Business Mission Approaches

Economic relations between Morocco and Luxembourg are gaining momentum, with both countries seeking to unlock untapped potential through stronger business engagement and targeted investment, according to Luxembourg’s Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles.

In an interview with Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), Delles said bilateral ties are advancing steadily, underpinned by a “clear complementarity” between the two economies. Morocco, he noted, is increasingly positioning itself as a strategic gateway to African markets, while Luxembourg serves as a key financial hub and entry point to Europe.

The minister expressed confidence in the outlook for economic cooperation, stressing that future progress will depend largely on intensifying exchanges between businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He also highlighted the importance of making better use of existing institutional, economic, and financial cooperation frameworks.

Delles emphasized that the main challenge in the coming years will be translating identified opportunities into structured, sustainable projects, supported by committed stakeholders and long-term strategic planning. He described this pragmatic, results-driven approach as central to shaping Morocco-Luxembourg cooperation.

Looking ahead, the minister pointed to a high-level Luxembourgish economic mission to Morocco scheduled from May 4 to 7, which he will lead. The delegation will include around 20 companies representing a range of sectors.

According to Delles, the mission aims to deepen ties between Luxembourgish and Moroccan businesses by fostering direct, targeted connections among economic actors. The initiative is designed to create favorable conditions for the emergence of concrete partnerships.

The visit will also focus on identifying new avenues for investment and cooperation, particularly in fast-growing sectors such as infrastructure, industry, technology, and services—areas where both countries offer complementary strengths.

Rather than concentrating on a single sector, the mission seeks to encourage broad-based collaboration, especially among SMEs, with the goal of developing joint, value-generating projects.

Delles stressed that the ultimate objective is to transform business exchanges into lasting partnerships, grounded in mutual complementarity and oriented toward measurable outcomes.

He added that a key test of the mission’s success will lie in the follow-up phase, with efforts aimed at ensuring structured continuity. In this regard, institutions such as the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in Casablanca and the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce are expected to play a pivotal role in converting discussions into tangible results, MAP reported.
