Morocco emerged as the leading African destination for Turkish exports during the first half of 2026, receiving $2.1 billion worth of Turkish goods, a 19.1% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data cited by Anadolu Agency from the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM).
The figures come as Türkiye's exports to Africa rose 12% year-on-year to $11 billion between January and June, reflecting Ankara's growing economic engagement with the continent through trade, investment and industrial partnerships, Anadolu reported.
Osman Aksoy, chairman of the Türkiye-Africa Business Council at the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK), attributed Morocco's position to the Kingdom's long-standing macroeconomic stability, investment-friendly reforms and strategic geographic location.
According to Aksoy, Morocco has successfully established itself as a production and distribution hub linking West Africa and Europe, thanks largely to the logistical advantages offered by the Tanger Med Port and the country's continued investment in renewable energy projects.
He also highlighted the opportunities expected to arise from preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, saying infrastructure, transport and urban development projects are likely to create significant business prospects for Turkish construction companies, building materials manufacturers and service providers.
Aksoy said Türkiye's growing presence in Africa is increasingly based on long-term partnerships rather than traditional trade, emphasizing joint production, technology transfer, local job creation and investment as the pillars of Ankara's economic strategy across the continent.
The Turkish business official noted that high-level diplomatic exchanges, the Türkiye-Africa Business and Economic Forum, and Joint Economic Commission meetings have helped strengthen commercial ties between Türkiye and African countries, contributing to the continued expansion of bilateral trade.
Besides Morocco, Egypt ranked as the second-largest African market for Turkish exports with $1.9 billion, followed by Libya with $1.3 billion. In terms of export growth, Morocco recorded one of the largest increases in value, with Turkish exports rising by $345.6 million compared with the first half of 2025, according to Anadolu.
