Morocco and Bangladesh reiterated their commitment on Tuesday to strengthening bilateral ties, with a particular focus on trade, investment, and economic cooperation, during talks held in Rabat between Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Obaed Islam described relations between Rabat and Dhaka as “historic and long-standing,” emphasizing that her visit aims to open new prospects for cooperation in economic and commercial sectors, while also expanding collaboration in diplomacy and sports.
The Bangladeshi official stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries, noting that Morocco and Bangladesh are expected to work more closely together in the coming years amid growing opportunities for partnership.
She also underlined that the two nations maintain positive relations both bilaterally and within various multilateral frameworks, expressing confidence that their longstanding ties will continue to deepen in the future.
For his part, Mezzour highlighted what he described as the “distinguished” relations between Morocco and Bangladesh, while acknowledging that trade exchanges between the two countries remain below potential.
According to the Moroccan minister, Morocco’s exports to Bangladesh are currently dominated by phosphate derivatives, whereas imports from Bangladesh remain relatively limited.
Mezzour added that both Rabat and Dhaka are seeking to expand cooperation across several sectors, including culture, commerce, and sports, while also working to enhance investment opportunities and broaden bilateral trade prospects.
