Brazil Moves to Strengthen Agricultural Security With 3.8M-Tonne Morocco Fertilizer Deal

Brazil is seeking to strengthen the security and resilience of its agricultural sector by securing 3.8 million tonnes of fertilizer from Morocco for the 2026-2027 period.

OCP Nutricrops and Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday at OCP’s industrial complex in Jorf Lasfar, establishing a framework to ensure fertilizer supplies to the Brazilian market.

The agreement was signed during an official visit by a high-level Brazilian government delegation to Jorf Lasfar by Brazilian Minister of Agriculture and Livestock André de Paula and OCP Nutricrops CEO Faris Derrij.

Beyond securing supplies, the MoU aims to strengthen the resilience of Brazil’s fertilizer supply chain while expanding cooperation in agricultural innovation, research and plant nutrition.

The cooperation covers five areas, including maintaining fertilizer supplies for Brazil’s agricultural sector, developing triple superphosphate (TSP) for customized plant nutrition solutions, and improving soil health and plant nutrition according to local production systems.

The agreement also promotes digital solutions and low-carbon farming models, as well as scientific exchanges, training and knowledge transfer.

The deal builds on more than 15 years of OCP’s presence in Brazil. The Group established OCP Brasil in 2010 to strengthen its proximity to Brazilian farmers, markets and agricultural stakeholders.

OCP said this local presence has helped the Group develop a deeper understanding of Brazil’s agricultural conditions and adapt its scientific, agronomic and industrial expertise to different production systems.

The new agreement therefore extends a long-term partnership focused on fertilizer supply security, agronomic expertise and innovation.

OCP Nutricrops, a major global player in phosphate fertilizers and plant nutrition, relies on OCP Group’s industrial and distribution capabilities to provide solutions adapted to specific soils, crops and agricultural systems.
