Morocco Ranks 14th Globally in Silver Production, Tops Africa

Morocco has secured a place among the world's leading silver-producing countries in 2026, ranking 14th globally with an output exceeding 12 million ounces, equivalent to more than 370 metric tonnes, according to a recent ranking published by Visual Capitalist, a platform specializing in economic and financial data.

According to a report by Business Insider based on the ranking, Morocco is the only African country to feature among the world's top silver producers, underscoring the Kingdom's growing importance in the global precious and industrial metals market at a time when demand for silver continues to rise due to the expansion of technology industries and renewable energy projects.

The ranking highlighted Morocco's position as Africa's largest silver producer, accounting for nearly half of the continent's total silver output.

The Kingdom also dominates silver production across the Middle East and North Africa region, representing approximately 95% of total regional production.

Although Morocco remains well behind the world's largest producers, led by Mexico with 173 million ounces, followed by Peru with 131 million ounces and China with 113 million ounces, the country has nevertheless established a notable presence among the most influential players in the global silver market.

According to Business Insider, Morocco's performance comes amid growing international interest in silver, as global demand has exceeded supply for five consecutive years, resulting in persistent market deficits and increasing the strategic importance of countries with substantial reserves and advanced production capacity.

The report also noted that Morocco recorded one of the strongest production growth rates in recent years, benefiting from the expansion of several mining projects, which strengthened its position in the global silver industry and helped improve its ranking among major producers.

Morocco's standing in the international silver market reflects the momentum of the country's mining sector, which has become an important driver for attracting investment and boosting mineral exports.

The sector is expected to gain further significance as international demand for raw materials linked to the energy transition and advanced manufacturing continues to grow.

Analysts expect Morocco's strategic role in the silver market to expand further in the coming years, supported by ongoing investments in mining projects and rising global demand for silver used in electronics, solar panels and clean energy technologies.
