FIFA President Gianni Infantino holds a high-level meeting in Morocco on Wednesday with senior officials from world football's governing body, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The meeting takes place at FIFA's Africa Office, located within the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, near Rabat, the source told AFP on condition of anonymity.
No further details about the meeting agenda were immediately disclosed.
It remains unclear why Morocco was chosen to host the gathering. The Kingdom is set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, and has become an increasingly important venue for FIFA events.
Infantino was also in Morocco last week to attend celebrations marking the country's Throne Day.
The meeting comes as the FIFA president faces mounting criticism over a now-abandoned proposal to open the organization's commercial operations to private investors.
The plan, unveiled unexpectedly last week after details emerged in media reports, envisioned the creation of an external company to manage FIFA's commercial activities and major tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup. The proposal was withdrawn between Friday and Saturday following strong opposition from key stakeholders, including UEFA.
Several senior FIFA officials have since distanced themselves from the initiative. Among them were Arsène Wenger, FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development, and Secretary General Mattias Grafström.
In a letter to FIFA staff seen by AFP, Grafström described the episode as "a series of sad and regrettable events" that had "fortunately resulted in the permanent abandonment" of the proposal.
Carlos Cordeiro, Infantino's senior adviser, also resigned on Friday, saying he was "categorically opposed" to the project.
Despite the controversy, Infantino remains the only declared candidate for FIFA's presidential election, which is scheduled to take place in Rabat in March 2027.
